Cocaine, the powdered demon that an addict will sell their soul for. My story is about a family member of mine who was addicted and abused cocaine for a number of years.I will call this person Dee to respect her privacy. Dee was a bright, articulate, and beautiful young woman full of hopes and dreams. She was outgoing and vivacious and had a zest for life, she never let anything stand in her way. She was very opinionated and strong headed almost to the point of being obnoxious at times, if she believed in something or believed in a cause she would charge ahead full steam. She had a heart of gold and her door was always open to those who were down on their luck. Dee had three beautiful children, two daughters and one son. Dee was a single Mom for awhile and eventually ended up meeting a guy who in the beginning we all thought was a wonderful guy. As time and their relationship progressed the rest of the family came to the conclusion that he was not a nice guy and infact prided himself on the criminal lifestyle that he chose to live. It seems he made his living by selling cocaine. Dee gradually fell into his lifestyle and started out just using cocaine recreationally if there is such a thing with this drug. This man eventually got himself in some serious legal trouble and ended up being sentenced to five years in jail. Dee was very dependent on him and basically fell to pieces in all senses when they locked him away. Her cocaine use took on a whole new level, what started out in the beginning as snorting lines then turned into free basing and lastly into IV injecting. She collapsed all the veins in her arms and resorted to injecting herself in body parts that are of a rather private nature. The ugliness of her addiction began to ravage her body and her appearance, hiding her addiction was no longer possible because anyone that looked at her knew she was destroying herself. For the most part she was probably no more than 70 pounds soaking wet after she started shooting up. She started neglecting her children, her home became a filthy squalor full of other junkies and any and all money she got was entirely used for drugs. Her children used to come to us for food. We used to wash her children's clothing because even the laundry money went for cocaine. We used to make the children their school lunches or they would go to school without. Dee became delusional and paranoid and figured that she was being watched all the time and that everyone was out to get her. I watched
