What has built so much hype behind this movie? Is it the fact that the other two were wildly successful? Is it the thought that this may be Sam Rami's last Spider-Man movie? Is it the fact that Venom, the most popular villain in the Spider-Man world is finally making his debut? It could be all three.
With the success of the other two movies, it has allowed Sony to give almost a blank check to the production of this movie. Both of the other movies spent unheard of amounts of money on their productions. They provided an ample return on those funds. Before Spider-Man, no one would have thought a studio would be willing to spend that much, but it paid off. They produced movies that fans rewarded with their attendance.
Sam Rami has become synonymous with Spider-Man movies. It is a well known fact that he signed initially to direct three movies. Now the question is will he continue beyond this? Sony has made it known that they would like to go beyond these three and produce upwards of six to nine. If this is Sam's last one, will he go out with a blaze of glory in an attempt to make it difficult to follow by another director? If he believes this to be his last will he pull out all the stops? Some of the hype rests in the answers to these questions.
Finally, Venom will splash onto the screen to battle our hero. This has definitely produced much hype. How will he be portrayed? Will he be the strong villain he is supposed to be? Will he delight fans? In looking at the new trailers, which show him, it appears they have his look. Will he be a push over and end thought or will they really give him the time and effort he deserves. In Fantastic Four, I was slightly disappointed in how easily Dr. Doom was defeated. If Venom is dispatched as easily, then there is no way this movie can live up to its hype.
In conclusion, there are only really three factors to the hype. If the movie can deliver strongly on at least two, I believe it will have lived up to the hype. Failure to live up to the hype could spell the end of the line for future stories on the big screen for our web slinging friend.
