"THE ULTIMATE PROPOSAL"
Little girls were always brought up hearing stories about "Prince Charming" and "Happily Ever After". Prince Charming would ride up on a white horse to rescue the Princess. He would then take her riding in the sunset to live happily ever after; The End.
Throughout the years, men were known to find a romantic place, get on one knee and propose to his girl with a beautiful diamond ring. She would say "yes", they would marry, have several children and stay together, but not always "Happily Ever After".
Today's Prince Charming is much different. With divorce rate so high, the Prince doesn't always want to commit, and the Princess doesn't always want to have so many children and I don't know what happened to the white horse. I do believe, however, that when today's Princess finds her Prince Charming, she still dreams of the "Ultimate Proposal".
When I met my first Prince Charming of my life, he didn't ride up in a white horse. Even though it was called a Maverick, it was a yellow, broken down Maverick. After dating for several months and realizing that we wanted to be together forever and live happily ever after, I thought that I might get that ultimate proposal. However, I think it went something like this: I told him that I was pregnant and he said, "Well, I guess we had better get married, then."
Wow! Just how I had always dreamed. NOT! We got married and had three boys right away. The "Happily Ever After" part came after he left. He walked out on us after 11 years of marriage. Not only did he leave me with three boys to raise by myself, but I had also been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (M.S.). That disease put a big strain on our marriage and Prince Charming could not handle the pressure, so he rode off into the sunset in a brand new pick up truck, without his Princess. The Princess was left in her castle; which was a three-bedroom mobile home and she drove an old rusty station wagon. She was a real guy magnet.
The Princess had to go out and get a full-time job, which was hard, because she had been a stay-home mother for 11 years. The only things she knew how to do was cook, clean, sew and change diapers. Those things, however, were not needed so much in the office. She managed though and ended up buying her and her boys a new castle, after the divorce was final. She bought a three-bedroom ranch house with a finished basement and a huge backyard.
