Dealing with neck, back, and shoulder pain

by Allyjay

This has to be one of the most debilitating things you can suffer from. I have suffered with some form of back, neck, shoulder pain for most of my life. I remember one of the cures for me in the morning was to hand from my door frame, sounds strange, but it would release all the spasms in my back and enable me to begin to function. Another great relief was a spa bath, with all the turbo jets hitting the right spots again causing me some relief. Lavender Oil and Peppermint Oil in the bath was also a great relaxant. There are many reliefs for these sort of pains but it is finding and identifying which one works best for you.

Osteopaths are brill, I would go into mine on all fours in agony and come out walking straight and upright, yes I felt a bit bruised and battered but the ability to be able to move freely was worth it.

With neck pain, I found a lavender pillow well more of a sausage which you can buy from health shops, heated in the microwave and wrapped around your neck not only worked as a support but the heat and lavender relieved some of the pain, not all of it, but gave me relief. Also whilst sitting in a chair, a rolled up towel around your neck or a scarf also aided with the support.

The important thing to remember is that sitting or lying in one position no matter how much pain your in is not the answer. You must exercise, most pain it due to spasms which will not right themselves. Gentle swinging motions for shoulder pain may hurt but is beneficial, as is all gentle exercise for the affected area, the more you don't move the more pain you will encounter. Gentle massage on the affected area with herbal oils is also another source of relief.
