I was extremely difficult for me to stop being single. I didn't get married (the first time) until I was 31 and my first child was born when I was 32.
I thoroughly and completely, without a doubt in the world, enjoyed my 20's. I had a great job, a nice car, a new home...women; anything a man could want. If I wanted to party with my friends until 4AM and have them sleep wherever they could find a place to lie down, I did it. I worked a seven day swing shift, which meant I got one "long" weekend a month and I had a ball on these weekends. I saw no reason to mess this up.
However, when I was 27, I met a beauty who had a smile that would charm a cobra. I fell in love and became engaged. This lasted a year and collapsed to my dismay. So, three more years of single and partying...drinking, etc.
The company I worked for had a "Top Ten Club", which consisted of the top ten percent of Goodyear supervisors, and I was nominated when I was 30. I was the only single guy of the five members of the club at our plant. That was okay until we had a huge company meeting in Orlando with members and spouses. I was dating, but I was not allowed to take her along. This did something to me. All the other wives took me under their wings and made me feel comfortable, but something was missing. I new or felt I needed a soul mate, and the girl I was dating immediately became the target of my utmost affection. So, when we got home I dated her on a serious basis and asked her to marry me. She said yes. That is how I stopped being single.
Two years later I had a one-year-old son, a divorce and bankruptcy. Single is probably better, but I'm on my third marriage now which has lasted ten years. Que Serra, Serra.
