Good without God: Secular humanism and morality

what you were taught as a child is simply make-believe. And, speaking from personal experience, the cold reality of life can seem quite disheartening in comparison to the shiny, idealistic fantasy promoted by religion. In addition, being open about your views will immediately earn you the label of immorality in the eyes of many, and any attempt to speak out against discrimination toward atheistic beliefs will most likely be met with laughter.

Reality often seems a drab existence. But look around you. Look at evolution. I just saw an article today announcing a new finding that the chicken is a distant relative of the tyrannosaurus rex. It's the first molecular proof of a link between dinosaurs and birds. This is nothing less than mind-blowing. Yet it's reality nonetheless. Look at the bat the flying mammal. Seen only from the head up, most would probably identify it as some kind of black fox. The bat is the link between birds and mammals and we now have proof of the link between dinosaurs and birds, which indirectly demonstrates the link between dinosaurs and mammals. Every bit of life on this earth is related; everything is a morphed version of everything else. Think about the universe; think about the fact that roughly ninety-four chemical elements are responsible for everything in existence. This is hardly drab I believe it's more extraordinary than anything the scriptures have to offer. But society plays it down because it conflicts with superseded religious convictions. We are conscious, thinking products of this existence. I think it's important for all nonbelievers to take a hard look at the magnificence of reality; too often it is overlooked and too easily it is taken for granted.
