Fighting the childhood obesity epidemic

Fighting the childhood obesity epidemic will require several commitments. Parents, educators, legislators, and children themselves- will all have to combine energies.
This epidemic did not occur overnight, and will take some time to reverse it's trend. Adults, who are also fighting obesity, may find the task overwhelming.

Children found themselves overweight because of several factors. First, many school districts eliminated P.E. In addition, the schools pushed tons of junk food onto the campuses. Lots of soda pop, chips, and candy- without gym class, is just plain stupid! Of course the kids are going to blow up. Recent legislation, as in California, has banned junk food from the schools.

Parents are battling the bulge too. Families need to visit a nutritionist, then begin to reevaluate whats important to them as a family. Can't we all just walk together? Visit the "Y" or make the next Christmas gift a family membership to Bally's. Exclude electronics that isolate the kids in the house. Get bikes, skates, or jump ropes. Just get going!
