How player vs. player (PvP) combat has affected upcoming MMORPG games

In the realm of Massive Multi player Online Games people both love and hate the feature of PvP or player vs player. With this feature you have the option of taking on another user in combat during the game. This feature has been around for a long time, but has greatly influenced the way gamers think of online RPG's and has greatly influenced the creation of upcoming titles.

Tibia is an online game in the Role Playing genera and was one of the first online games to ever include a PvP feature. To this day Tibia is a successful and free online game that paved the way for more important titles like Rune Scape, World of War Craft and more, but what Tibia did was introduce us all to the idea of player against player.

This idea gave new purpose to games. Now you had the option of actually becoming a hero of villain. You could choose your path, become a strong high level protector and help the innocent, or become an evil dictator and rule with an iron fist, killing any who oppose you and enforcing your rule. PvP gaming has just added so much more to any online game, and that's why many upcoming titles will include this feature.

If a title does not include the PvP feature, that's fine, but you may end up like Final Fantasy XI (11). This was the biggest flop by Square since the game Dragon knight on the NES, what you never heard of Dragon Knight, neither have most people. FFXI was a great game in terms of graphics and was a great idea bringing the ever popular franchise to the online realm, but there was no point once your quests were done. If your a level 100 knight, mage, whatever you have pretty much seen everything the game has to offer.

PvP games are just so much more fun. The thrill of trying to kill another player, as bad as it may sound, is great. Trying to hunt down someone who has wronged you or your guild in the past is quite an experience. Also trying to escape with your life while being attacked by a strong player is something not for the weak hearted. What it all boils down to is PvP games are just more fun in an overall respect then games that do not have the feature. If people complain about it then just have them move to a different game world, or server that does not have the PvP option, very simple, but the majority of the gaming community will love the PvP feature.
