Geriatric Care Hospital is Needed
When we become senior citizens we are looking hopefully toward a time of serene retirement filled with family, personal interests and good health. Of all of these the most important is our health. What we do to ourselves up to that point becomes a cumulative affect. Our outlook and total environment will also have an affect on our health. As we think and talk, so are we. We are greater than the sum of our cells.
When we see the Special Care homes and Nursing Homes in the North America, how many of these are run on the basic premise of health and not sickness and disease? Why are there no hospitals that are only staffed by hoistic practicioners? Has there been a test hospital set up that can provide data as to the relevance of the benefits that are derived from such a setting?
Imagine a place where people can go to be evaluated as a whole person, not just labels of disease. Professionalism does not have to be cold and impersonal and just a sheet of data on a clipboard. Where the atmosphere is pleasant, people are smiling and friendly; with soft comforting music, not just the blare of intercoms; aromatherapy, not smelling only of disinfectant and sterilization; walls painted in refreshing colors, not looking strictly clinical; and pictures on the walls, not just in corridors, of comforting, calming and refreshing scenes, not the jarring bareness of a void. Where a person is treated with respect and truly seen as a whole being, who maybe made some bad choices in the past that has compromised their future, but whose future is not reversable with the right encouragement and support system of dedicated people and therapies. Staff that feel truly blessed to be in such a place of genuine service to others and in a spirit of sharing and caring. What might the outcome be of such a place? What benefit to our community and ourselves?
We need people who are friendly, warm, smiling, and genuinely caring to staff these places where people are so very vulnerable. A paycheck is not the only reason for a job there, in fact, if the attitude of genuineness is not there then that is the wrong place for that individual. Positive outlooks are necessary, no matter the private dramas. Such a place is not about the staff, it is about the patient. Staff are not the issue. Wellbeing and wholeness for the patient must come first. Convenience for the staff is not an issue, the patient is the issue and the conveniences should be for them to make their transition
