Best places to meet singles in the city

Being single in the city can be a very lonely thing. Although you see plenty of other singles, as you go about your day, you never seem to be able to connect with them. The closest you get is a look, or a quick smile, and then the other person - who in simpler times may have wound up spending the rest of their life with you - disappears into the crowd and is gone forever.

Fortunately, there are places in the city where the frantic pace of city life slows down enough to enable you to really connect with other singles.

And built right into these places are tools you can use to strike up a conversation with any desirable single who catches your fancy. The tools are provided free of charge, and if you're reading this article, you have all the skills you need to use them.

I'm not talking about bars, and clubs. These are the worst places to meet anybody. Drinking rarely brings out the best in people, and few find loud music conducive to talking. Getting to know someone requires enough quiet and space for you to really hear them when they are speaking to you. So stay out of bars, and loud clubs.

The very best places to meet singles in the city are the many large, multi-story bookstores that you can find in any city of any size. These bookstores have comfortable seating, loads of books to make conversation about (the free tools I mentioned earlier)and often even a Starbuck's where you can grab a coffee and transform your conversation into a first date.

Best of all, these bookstores offer peace, and quiet, and are an oasis apart from the bustling city just outside their doors.

I've met some very interesting single girls in the military history section, but your tastes may be different from mine. You should go to a section of the bookstore that interests you. You'll share a common interest with the singles whom you meet there, and when you get that quick glance or smile, the field of your mutual interest will provide a natural topic with which to start a conversation.

You'll find large bookstores to be the best places in the city to meet and connect with other singles. In no time at all you'll be talking to someone, in a quiet and relaxed environment, with whom you might just spend the rest of your life.
