Well, I'm sure you've heard enough over the broad news, and different versions or whatnot (FOX, CNN, BBC, what have you.)
I live in a parish directly between the easternmost parishes (Orleans area, which Katrina decimated, mostly due to flood waters and surge) and the westernmost parishes of southern Louisiana (Calcasieu, where Rita hit the hardest.)
I was told by the Chief of Police, every single member quit and walked out for higher pay in either other parishes, or other states.
Our own police walked out on us, and we had to transport assistance from Michigan and other such far-nothern states for martial help.
If you want a positive narrative, a house fire erupted a few weeks ago in one of the 'worse' neighbourhoods. In this area, there has been a bad family/gang feud going on between the north-northeastern families and gangs, and the west-southwestern groups. This has recently been brought to court, and the fights move to the police departments or even the court sessions. Whatever and wherever you except insane actions from family and gang feuds, has happened. The house fire was started, as told by eyewitnesses, by well-known members of the front of one side of this fight.
Not only did the police arrive before the fire department, they also had the area SECURED before the FD arrived. This shows bravery and also shows they casted their opinion aside, as compared to some other cases that have been well-noted in editorials.
There will always be the hard component of human nature, but the 'good' continues to persevere in their fight to make the world a better place.
If you have any specific inquiries about the nature of the current state of the south Louisiana police task forces, feel free to ask for details.
I hope this gave you at least a bit more information pertaining to your local police inquiry.
