Sanjaya is a fine, handsome young man and a personable young man. Every now and then he sings a good song and does very well.

However, if the judges and Americans do not truly feel that this young man is the best of the best, then it is not necessarily in anybody's interest for him to voted American Idol.

Entertainment is a very cruel and destructive business.

In an article we read that employees often employ people based upon likability. Of course we want them to be very good at their jobs.

This a problem in business and in entertainment. Don't know the person, but heard an interview where a person talked about making mistakes in a business, but that people simply liked to person and kept with them. This is exceptable in an apprentice role, because people are human and they are going to make mistakes and we need to stay with people so that they can learn and develop. But this is for mentors and apprentices, and we need the best of the best.

Certainly we need to allow people to develop and make mistakes and that is needed, so that they can learn how to correct those mistakes and to become the best of the best.

This is a problem for American Idol and everywhere. Many competent people and the best of the best are not always the likables.

If we need the likables we still must insist on their being the best of the best, and certainly we can work with them through mistakes, and many of these best singers make and we help them to improve their singing and get to be the greats. Certainly they need this guidance, as great allows we allow to play scene after scene until they get it right. Nevertheless we know we have great actors. Some we even allow to read their lines, like a Brando, but these are great actors.

We need the Simon Cowell and the Randy critiques and the Paula critiques.

American Idol must decide if it wants to be a popularity contest, a likability contests.

These judges appear to be doing their jobs in their different styles, which we find with all auditions. However, America who votes-do you want a popularity contest? A likability contest? This is the same question for employers in all areas of employment. Certainly we adore likable, charismatic, charming even glamorous people and many times these do have the X factor. We can name many of these types throughout the entertainment business and throughout entertainment and business history and throughout history.

Of course, there should be a role for Sanjaya in show business, in entertainment, if he has genuine audience appeal, but perhaps it is not necessarily singing?
