The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is a federal agency under the US Department of Commerce. The focus of the NOAA's work is the study and distribution of information on the oceans and the atmosphere. One of the main things that relate to the distribution of information is the forecasts and weather warnings they issue through the National Weather Service. They also distribute information on the oceans and atmosphere that relate to ecosystems, climate, and commerce. They also oversee the management of coastal and marine environments, especially in relation to regulating fisheries and protecting threatened and endangered marine animals. Lastly they undertake and oversee research in relation to the information they distribute focusing on four categories: Ecosystems, Climate, Weather and Water, and Commerce and Transportation.
