I'm 37 and I still live with my mother. I have been torn by this decision that I've made, but I know for a fact that it's best. My mother has knee problems and is unable to work, so I am the main money maker. She can't live without me and to be honest I can't survive without living with her.
I know someone who was happy living on her own. Not having to answer to anyone but herself and relishing in being able to do anything she wanted and buy anything she wanted. She had to move back home because her parents were struggling to make ends meet. Now she's working two jobs just to keep them afloat.
My siblings are married or living with friends, they are able to do it and even they are struggling to make ends meet. My younger sister just got a divorce and has two children, she'll end up moving back home, she can't support two children on her own with what little money she makes. Her husband doesn't give her child support unless he's forced to.
A part of me is ashamed to be living at home when my younger siblings are all out on their own with their own families. It costs a lot to live on your own and to be blunt I just know that I can't do it. I know my limits and I also know what I can do and what I can't. I try to avoid the "where do you live" talk or turn it to another conversation, but most people know that I still live at home.
I love my family and if it means I have to live at home to take care of them, then that's more important to me than worrying about what other's think of my living status.
