Joining a gaming guild can be fun and enjoyable t it can also lead to a loss of lot of time and constraints on what you can do when playing.
A guild is an association of people with similar interests. For example in a first person shooter (FPS), you could have a guild or a clan, which is great at getting frags only. Another guild could be great at completing or objectives, and another could be having the best of both.
PROS
1) One does not get fed up of the game easily as there is an incentive to work at increasing your levels or skills. For example a higher rank in the guild.
2) Members can offer tips to beginners on how to improve their game, making it easier to learn the game and improve.
3) Once in a while guild wars or clan wars can happen. This is especially seen in games like World of Warcraft, Runescape, and FPS games. These can usually give rushing adrenaline and heart-stopping moments.
4) Lets you meet other people across the world, which can blossom into good friendships.
5) One learns how to act in a team, gain the respect of others and work hard to meet a goal. This can even be useful in real life.
The main reason why people join guilds is so that they do not get fed up of the games and for clan wars.
CONS
1) Sometimes one may become too addicted to the game, spending long hours trying to level up to gain reputation.
2) Loss of social life as one rejects real life friends and in replacement accepts online friends.
3) Opposing Guilds might give a person a bad name and influence the whole community of players.
4) Getting out of the Guild is difficult as one can repeatedly think of the guild and his or her friends in it.
Therefore join Guilds only if you know you have the strength of mind to get out of it if needed. I am talking through experience. I created a clan for RuneScape and after 2 years I planned to quit it. Only after three years have I actually managed to quit, but once in a while I still go on and visit the forums.
