The first time i noticed psoriasis on my body was when i was about 13 years old,i'd seen it before on my father and my grandfather but over the years that passed it was i who became the worst sufferer of all members of my family,in your teens other kids can be very unforgiving in what they say,and at first my reaction to this was to provide many of them with flat noses{i do not recommend this course of action as it led to more teasing and STRESS!}.Stress is a big issue with psoriasis, the more worried i became over my skin or anything else for that matter, the worse my skin became...at one point my whole body was patchy with the hard plaque's of skin...not a nice sight and to a certain extent i understand the teasing.
I then became the class joker and also a bit of a fighter{a case of the bullied becoming the bully}which in turn led to my first proper girlfriend..i remember that day clearly, how worried i was, because of course she had only seen psoriasis on my face and elbows at school, but when she saw my stomach covered in patches she was fine and this to me was the beginning of what i call freedom. From then on i was confident and outgoing, which in turn lowered my stress levels and cleared lots of my psoriasis,i've had plenty of girls since and only had the odd one who has been negative about it.
The more negative side of psoriasis is keeping up with lotions and potions that the doctor prescribes for you,if i have a bad attack it can take an hour to apply the greasy ointments, which can be messy. The best treatment i have recieved to date is methotrexate,it cleared me completely but alas when you finish the treatment you tend to have a relapse..also PUVA treatment is very effective ask your doctor for advice on this
In closing my advice to psoriasis patients is to listen to the doctor's and do as they say{they really do know what they are doing},also stop worrying about it,the people who find your looks offensive because of your affliction are the ones who are not worth a toss,i find the majority don't care and as soon as you realize that the better..cheers for listening..raymondo
