The Simpsons. As a movie. Oh boy. Now I don't want you to think that I dislike The Simpsons. I love The Simpsons, for so many reasons that I hesitate to even get into it because I don't want this prediction to become a novel. But in the history of sitcom cartoons being turned into movies....well, I think you all know where I'm going with THAT line of thought. Very rarely are these adaptations anything more than a super long episode. Is that bad? That's for you to decide. Will I go see it in the theater? Probably not. I have a strong feeling that I will get the same enjoyment (or possibly lack thereof) if I simply wait and rent it when it comes out (in, like four months probably...ok I exaggerate, but c'mon, they release them to video so darn fast these days)on video. Bottom line? While the humor of the show is usually pretty solid, it-like anything else-can be hit and miss at times. They waited so long to release a Simpsons movie that you have to wonder if it's nothing more than a feeble attempt to try and regain some spotlight in the ratings department. And if that is the case, how will that affect the quality of the product? Will they go all out and make it side-splittingly funny? Here's hoping, but I think I'll refrain from holding my breath.
