The true romantic gift is not so much about WHAT it is, but rather WHEN and WHY it is given.
It's the tiny memento, of the night before, given first thing in the morning: the rose on the pillow; the freshly brewed cappuccino waiting on the dresser. Those are true romantic gifts.
A funny love note tacked to the fridge, tucked into a lunch bag, a pocket or a purse; that's a true romantic gift (especially after a fight).
It's the unexpected gift, the flowers or the balloons that arrive at the office, with a tag reading, "Just because I love you." That's a true romantic gift.
It's agreeing to see that guy or chick movie, a ballet presentation, or monster truck show, just to say, "I'd rather be with you, than not." That's a true romantic gift.
The romantic gifts given according to the calendar don't take much original thought, making them less powerful, less romantic.
But the impromptu picnic by the lake or the basin filled with hot water and soaking salts; those are the truly romantic gifts.
