Our next generation: Are things getting better or worse?

In every generation our technological advances get better and better, but our societal generation seems to be getting worse. It would seem that with the technological advances you see that people are getting smarter, but as I look around at our society it looks like people are getting dumber, ruder, less caring and more willing to accept what they are told. People don't seem to even know the most elementary things.

More people seem to have a willingness to go with what they are told rather than find out things for themselves or have their own thoughts about things. The quality of things has gone way down. Look at the music with rap, grunge and the newer types of rock. TV with reality shows about people doing brainless things. But people have been told that these are the now things so just go with it even though you have to know that these things are junk. As an artist I hate the turn the art is taking. It seems you don't have to have talent anymore. If you do something that looks like some kid did it or you throw some paint at a canvas and call it an Abstract painting, or even throw some junk together and call it a sculpture people just love it. I know there are people that might say I'm trashing people's freedom of expression, but junk is junk. People have been told this is art so just go with it. It is just another way that shows thing are getting worse.

People are getting ruder and just seem to care less about things. People don't say excuse me or think you as much as they use to. People don't care what they say in mixed company, in front of older people or around children, as matter of fact kids don't care what they say in front of adults or to them. People will hold you up in traffic while they talk to each other from car to car on opposite sides of the street and will look at you like you did something wrong if you blow the horn at them. People rarely give up their seat on a full bus to the handicapped anymore and men rarely give their seats to women.

I mentioned kids earlier. They are running amuck. Kids are more in control of households then the parents are. I've seen kids curse their parents, hit them and even spit on them. The government and other organizations tell us we can't spank our children anymore. I ask you to look back to a time when not only could a parent spank their child, but so could anybody who saw that child doing something wrong. A teacher, a neighbor, another relative, it didn't matter. You'll see those children had respect not only
