Getting nervous for exams well to your luck there are several tips for studying, whether your planning some last minute cramming or a well planned revise schedule. It only takes some determination and will-power to start getting good grades.
PLACE
Do a well thorough study, you need a good place to study. A well lit room, comfortable chairs and a medium sized table. Do not study on the bed, you might feel that you are more comfortable but chances are that you start to feel more sleepy and do not get anything in your head. The room should be free from any distractions, no computers, no TVs or anything that might distract you.
First look at some general tips.
1) No music, it does not help it just distracts you.
2) Study for an hour with a 15 minute break, or two hours with a half an hour break. Do not go over it, since you will just end up staring at the book and not learning anything.
3) Study for at least 5-6 hours a day close to exam time and at least 2 hours on normal days.
4) When studying due to a lapse of concentration you might suddenly find yourself at the bottom of the page and not knowing what you have read. Be honest with yourself and read it again.
5) Choose a timetable and stick to it. Have your exam timetable with you so that you know which exams are first and which are later.
6) Do not break rest to study, it does not help and only leaves you feeling exhausted the next day.
7) Do not study just to show your parents that you are studying, it only hurts yourself.
HOW TO REVISE
1) Make a revise timetable. Stick to one subject a day, and plan out around 5 to 6 hours of study. Stick to it.
2) Take down notes. For example make a list of definitions for each subject and for subjects like Maths and Physics take down a list of equations. This comes in real handy for quick reference.
3) Go through past papers, if your doing a public exam there will be past papers available, get them and go through them. If possible get the marking schemes as well so that you can check the paper yourself.
4) Try doing pair questioning with a friend, each doing a different subject. Mark down the questions you get wrong.
5) When studying notes go through each page, then ask yourself what you just read. This keeps you attentive.
CRAMMING
1) Do not exhaust yourself, take short breaks to maintain optimum concentration.
2) Study the main topics you know you will be questioned on.
3) Skim the other parts of the text so you get a basic idea.
BEFORE THE EXAM
1) Make sure you have the correct equipment. Enough pens and pencils, a calculator and/or instrument box if needed or any other item.
2) Drink a lot of water, but not so much that you would need to go to the toilet in the middle of the exam.
3) Do not discuss with your friends you would only get confused.
4) Be confident and go and do your best!
Hope you have much better results after strictly following these tips. It works for me as I am always in the Top 3 in my
batch. Hope it works for you as well.
