Easter is the most significant celebration of the Christian faith.
It is the "High Season of the Church" and the holy time of remembrance and celebration of the Life - Death - Resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth. The question asks "why are churches packed on Easter and not on regular Sundays?"
There is a simple explanation.
People come to Church on Easter Sunday to celebrate the Hope and Possibility that faith in Jesus of Nazareth brought into the world with his life and death.
Some bent with age and hair gray from wear and tear of the journey come because of tradition and habit.
Others come dressed "to the nines" in colorful clothing and jewels to display just how far they have come on their journey and exhibit the rewards they have reaped by belonging to the correct "House of God" in the community.
Teens come many times dragged into the pew because their parents said they had to.
Children come to get more candy and treats.
Then their are those who come in need of resurrection and renewal...in search of purpose, for their journey has been painful and it feels like a never ending empty search for something! Something they never quite can grasp or have or hold on to. These people search for the quick fix on Easter Sunday....or perhaps it is the spiritual revival and renewal they want to believe may happen to them on this Easter Sunday, known around the world as Resurrection Sunday.
Many come because someone takes them to church to experience a moment of spirituality and Easter is a glorious and most magnificent church experience in most faith traditions. Surely one can find on Easter Sunday something to touch their heart. Something to believe in again.
Easter comes as the darkness and cold of winter is over come by the burst of Spring and color of green in most of America.Flowers are beginning to blossom and trees are starting to awake with renewed buds of life.
Easter is the time when people can find forgiveness,be inspired by majestic music, gather together with other sojourners who feel lost and alone and be renewed by the power of feeling for a brief moment that we are all one in the presence of God.
Easter Sunday is a slice of Christian Faith that exemplifies the best of what humanity can be. It is a moment when most can have a taste of belief in something not seen, yet felt within lost deep chasms of your soul. Preachers will preach there is a life after this one and you are never alone in your pain.
Easter Sunday offers people a moment to believe, just maybe, Jesus
