Many people confuse fasting and consecration.
Here is the difference...
Confusion lies in the way that the body, the "flesh", is being denied.
For example, to fast something like food, you give it up for a certain period of time.
And during that time constant meditation, prayer, or reading of sacred scripture is required.
If you are fasting food then you DON'T eat food at all during the period of time that is spent to eat food. Fasting doesn't always have to be food. It could be TV, video-games, movies, and etc. Now let us go to consecration.
Consecration is when you cut down on something that your flesh wants in order to meditate, pray, or read sacred scripture.
For example, when you consecrate food, you would eat maybe nothing but soups and salads as your daily course. This method is used usually to deny the flesh for a longer period of time. It is possible to consecration for a year but it is impossible to fast an entire year unless there is some kind of divine intervention.
That is the difference.
