STAR TREK V: THE FINAL FRONTIER

Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, sees William Shatner take to the directors seat in this fifth installment, also giving a hand with the writing, he is even more at the center of Star Trek than ever before.

Captain Kirk is given a new starship Enterprise, and is still working out the kinks when he is called to solve a hostage situation on a planet in the neutral zone, however, the aggressor's aim is not hostile, as what he seeks is divine knowledge which involves him using the Enterprise.

The direction is interesting, not fantastic or deserving a great deal of note, however the dialog is decent for showing the characters that have been made icons over many years, with some wonderful interaction between Kirk(William Shatner), Spock(Leonard Nimoy) and Doctor McCoy(DeForest Kelley).

The actual narrative is rather weak however, building up to something that never delivers, whilst having a well rounded concept, the notion of the quest is poorly displayed and fails to present a well rounded film.

Performances are as great as usual withe the Star Trek films, beautifully portraying characters of massive integrity and history, who are well developed in many senses.

Overall, there is nothing particularly special within this movie, always a pleasure to see the three main members of the cast interact on screen, but the narrative is not there to support the whole film. Not Star Trek's finest hour, but still with some merit.
