Making a house into a home

Lets face it; we all would like a safe haven where we can relax and let the world pass us by. A place to hide from the problems of the world outside. A place to kick back and call home. When they say "Home is where the heart is," that is what we all strive for when we finally find that special place to call our own. Our home should be a reflection of who we are.

An expression of our own heart and character designed with love and comfort in mind. When making a house into a home the most important things to remember is that whatever you do should fit your lifestyle and your personality because this is the place that is a reflection of yourself. Pictures are a way of personalizing your space while surrounding yourself with the people and the memories you love. Things brought from your childhood home can make your surroundings more familiar and warm. The Furniture should be functional and comfortable, for those down times after a long day at work.

Color is important because we respond differently to different colors, so the colors you choose for your home will set the mood for both you and you guests. Colors such as yellow are considered warm and cheery, a reflection of the sun. Red resembles heat and passion, while blue represents coolness and calmness. Purple suggests mystery, reflection and twilight and green is restful and cheerful yet calming. These are just a few colors that you may incorporate in your rooms but what ever color you use make sure it expresses what you want for that room. If you research the different colors and what mood you want to set for each room you will be rewarded with a home in which you can feel comfortable.

Lastly, keep in mind that if you have that special someone living with you that you will need to incorporate some of him into the decorating of the house, so that he will feel at home there too. Your home should not only reflect your personality but also your life style. When decorating you should also take in mind how much time you will have to spend to keep your space neat and clean and design around that thought. For a house to be a home it must not only reflect who you are but be functional.

Whatever your need for your home make it your own because this place will be your utopia, a quiet, safe place you can call your own. A place where you can be surrounded with warmth and love, and can kick off your shoes and be yourself.
