One romantic gift idea that I gave my wife 30 years ago still brings back pleasant memories. I'm the guy who usually gets it wrong when it comes to gifts, but at least once, I did it right.
My wife's birthday fell on a Saturday that year, and I decided to surprise her with a day off. Despite her argument, she finally agreed to take the afternoon out with her girl friends and do some shopping. The moment she left, my plan kicked into action.
I had prearranged to farm out my two daughters for the rest of the day with my mom, so I immediately got them accommodated. Then I went to the grocery store and purchased two large 1" thick T bone steaks, and the basics to accompany them. Arriving home with my goodies, I began preparations for a very fine meal.
When my wife arrived home at 6 P.M., our prearranged time, the dinner was almost ready. The dinner table was properly set, candles for lighting, and a nice wine to accompany a really tasty meal. When I told her to stay seated while I brought in the dessert, I brought out the rest of my gift to her.
That gift was a short poem that I had written for her explaining all of the ways that I loved her. It wasn't very good, but it was the best gift that I ever gave her. I showed, and I stated my love for her.
For a guy who never did know how to buy a good gift for his wife, I learned a great lesson that day, although I spent no real money, the value of the gift of love is priceless, and beyond what money can buy.
