My memories of the AMC Gremlin are not pleasant because this ridiculous green thing replaced my sister's '67 Mustang. Now, that was a car a guy could love.
To my astonishment one sunny afternoon in the summer of 1972, my older sister drove up in her brand new Gremlin. Everyone in the family was shocked, we didn't know that she was even shopping for a new car.
My heart sank as I realized that she had traded in her Mustang. Even though she knew that I wanted her old car, she traded cars on the spur of the moment.
When I went on the obligatory test ride, having to ride in the "back seat", I knew that it was hate at first sight, and well justified. Over the course of three years, I silently laughed as the Gremlin quickly rusted away, and spent about one fourth of it's life in the shop for service.
I hated the origin of that car, the color, the ride, and it's appearance. It looked like the tail end had been chopped off! But, as a good brother does, I sympathized with her for her endless mechanical nightmares with the thought, serves you right for letting a beautiful Mustang go.
