The Masters tournament is the most fun golf tournament to watch for a couple of reasons. The first reason is that there are minimal commercial interruptions. You get to watch 56 minutes per hour of actual golf action. I love the fact that there is minimal sponsorship so we don't have to hear about the Bell South clubhouse or the 5th hole brought to you by Pepsi.
Another reason that the Masters is so great to watch is that the course is the fairest test of championship golf that there is. The course is in pristine condition and the greens are immaculate. The rough isn't 6 inches deep so it doesn't kill you if you hit it there, but the way the course is set up is to reward great shot making abilities. You have to know when to go for a specific shot and when to hit it to the middle of the green, 2 putt, and walk away with par. You have to be able to pick out a certain spot which may be as narrow as 10 feet and fit your long iron shot into that area, otherwise your ball may wind up rolling 85 feet down to the front of the green.
A final reason is that everyone, even the top players, end up putting up a big number on at least one hole (depending on the playing/weather conditions) at some point in the tournament. No top player is immune to it which is sometimes good for all of us who don't play golf for a living to see. CBS goes a little overboard with all of the nostalgia and moments that they report on, but the golf is no less fun to watch for the viewer. I only wish Augusta National was accessible to the normal person, that way I could play 18 in that setting just to see what it's like.
