Perfume reviews: L'Eau d'Issey, by Issey Miyake

Posh perfume has always been a vice of mine! I'm in my element in a perfume department having a furtive sniff of the latest offerings. It was whilst Christmas shopping that I got my first sniff of my latest purchase L'Eau D'Issey. One sniff and I was hooked this went to the top of my I must really have this NOW list. Given that I was Christmas shopping unfortunately it was going to have to stay on the list a while longer!

With a name like L' Eau D'Issey you'd be forgiven for thinking this was the latest offering by some suave French fashion designer. It was actually created by a Japanese designer Issey Miyake, the French twist to the name is probably due to the fact that he is based in Paris. Launched in 1992, it was soon followed up with a male version of this perfume.

L'eau D'Issey is marketed is as an aquatic scent blended with subtle earthy tones to produce a perfume that represents purity, serenity and vivacity! Some sites recommend this perfume for as they tweely call it "Romantic" occasions or as the Nursey would put it for those "On the pull moments" Other sites recommend it for casual wear.

The first thing that strikes you about this perfume is the rather unusual bottle. With it's understated lettering -you have to peer closely at the base to find the small lettering which tells you what the perfume is it oozes class. The frosted bottle allows you a glimpse at the pale slightly green contents as it rises to a tapered point with a metallic lid. It's very reminiscent of say an Arabic type flask and I'll admit it does look slightly phallic as it sits on the shelf. The actual box it's self is both flashy and understated at the same time. With an unusual triangular effect it informs you very subtly that this is a perfume with class. Miyake obviously went for a design that screams class in a more subtle way then other fashion houses have done when lookin g at packaging. With a minimalist approach instead of a girly rosebud type approach the packaging will draw a second glance from you as it is rather unusual.

With blended notes of lotus, freesia, cyclamen, rose water, peony, carnation, white lilies and precious woods I'm actually rather glad I never read about this perfume prior to that all important sniff test as floral perfumes are rather off putting for me. On first spraying I must admit I really was not impressed! Immediately my nostrils were assaulted by an over powering Rose/Daffodil smell. It was perhaps about 30 minutes later I started to notice a rather
