How to become a better person

by K Ong

To become a better person...

It begins with the mind. Reflection is key as you need to know
1) areas where you are lacking
2) your actual goal in order to know you have become better
3) your strategies to close the gaps

And then you need to consciously act on your strategies.

It is not enough to simply wish and say you want to become better. Having the specifics spelt out will actually help you to know if you are on track.

For example I have a colleague I simply detest and the feeling, I know is mutual. For the past few months, we have not been on speaking terms and the tension in the office is quite high. However, I pride myself on being a professional and I know I want to become a gracious old woman. That is my goal. It has been hard but I have managed a smile and a greeting wherever the opportunity allows me. I got the cold shoulder initially but she has thawed a little. I don't think we will ever be friends, but I am happy to know that in a way I have become the 'better person'.
