National Women's Health and Fitness Day is a national event promoting health awareness and regular physical activity for women of all ages. The event is held annually on the last Wednesday in September.
The main goal of the National Women's Health and Fitness Day is to encourage women of all ages to take control of their health through education, positive health choices and regular physical activity. This special day is also an opportunity for women to bond and create new friendships while committing themselves to healthier habits. The grassroots nature of the event provides a perfect opportunity for local organizations to promote the health-related programs and services that they provide for the women of their communities.
Local organizations throughout the United States participate in the health-friendly holiday by hosting events promoting health and fitness. Events are held at a variety of locations, including hospitals, fitness clubs, parks, schools, retirement communities and other locations throughout the community. An estimated 40,000 to 50,000 women are expected to participate in local events this coming September (2007).
Activities vary according to the nature of the hosting organizations and the specific interests of the women in the community. Activities should be noncompetitive and promote education and awareness. Possible events include exercise demonstrations, health screenings and health and fitness informational workshops.
In order to be officially recognized as a host site, local groups must pay a small registration fee of $29.95 plus shipping. This fee allows registered groups to utilize the event name and logo in their advertisements. The official Women's Health and Fitness Day Program Manual, a 2007 Women's Day T-shirt, event poster and other sample incentive items are also included in the registration fee. A special toll-free number is provided upon registration offering local groups free consultation regarding event planning.
