Getting rid of spyware

To remove spyware already on your computer:
-

If you still can access Internet:

- Run Windows Update
click Windows Update on Start Menu and follow instruction

- Get these spyware removers:
Microsoft Windows AntiSpyware (Beta)
http://www.microsoft.com /athome/security/spyware/softw are/default.mspx

Spybot - Search & Destroy
http://www.safer-networ king.org/en/download/index.htm l

Ad-Aware SE Personal
http://www.lavasoftusa .com/software/adaware/

- Download & install these three spyware removers.
- Run the definition update for each of them, one by one.
- Restart your computer and go to safe mode (Hold F8 key when your computer is starting)
- Run spyware scan using the three remover, one by one.
- Choose to remove any detected spyware
- Restart your computer normally

If your Internet access has been blocked by the spyware:
- Download the three removers using other computer, burn into a CDR.
- Copy & install the removers into your computer.
- Restart your computer and go to safe mode (Hold F8 key when your computer is starting)
- Run spyware scan using the three removers, one by one.
- Choose to remove any detected spyware.
- Restart your computer normally
- Run Windows Update
- Run the definition update for the spyware removers, one by one.
- Restart your computer and go to safe mode
- Run spyware scan using the three remover, one by one.
- Choose to remove any detected spyware
- Restart your computer normally

In general, protecting your computer from any malware (spyware, adware, virus, trojan, worm, etc) involve similar approach:

1. Update your Windows regularly
Microsoft release security update for Windows on second Tuesday
of each month. Security update is meant to cover known holes in your computer security. Go Start -> Control Panel -> Automatic Updates . Set it to Automatic (Recommended) so that Windows will download and install updates automatically.

2. Don't open any suspicious email attachment.
You should never open any email attachment ending with .exe or .zip . To be even safer, don't
