To understand DHTML or Dynamic Hyper Text Markup Language, you need to first understand HTML, and have a basic grasp of CSS and JavaScript. HTML is used for structuring the content of your web page. It makes the content up into structure such as paragraphs, lists, tables, comments or forms. CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) are used for applying visual styles. CSS tells the browser how to display each element. JavaScript is used for (almost) all interactive functionality, and should be referenced separately - not written into HTML. JavaScript tells the browser what to do in response to events such as clicking, or value input.
DHTML describes the wide range of techniques available to manipulate HTML documents and HTML elements within documents, using JavaScript. You can move things around, change the way your page looks, remove bits of page or add new ones. Creating a web page that is easy to navigate, and straightforward is an involved process.
