The only piece of equipment a swimmer really needs is a good pair of goggles. Goggles keep the water out of your eyes and allow you to focus on your technique. Therefore it is vital to select a pair wisely.
First you need to make sure whatever pair you choose fits your head. It should be snug and comfortable. You might want to consider anti-fog goggles or anti-fog drops. The most important thing is "fit" which means the goggle being strapped on with no water leaking inside. It should feel tight without cutting the skin.
There are a lot of styles of goggles out there, but three stand out among the throng. They are the Swedish Style, Gasket Style, and the Hard Rubber Style.
The Swedish Style is the most popular among swimmers today. They come cheap and are notoriously easy to readjust. There are really no problems with these goggles.
The Gasket Style is the second most popular. These have foam added to them to soften the impact between the goggles and the eye area. The only problem with these is that the foam wears and eventually detaches from the rest of the goggle, making it so the swimmer has to buy them much more often. Other than this one issue these are the ideal goggles.
Hard Rubber Style tries to soften the rubber around the eye are to lessen the impact. The material is more seamless and pliable because it is just a softer version of the same plastic point. It is not quite as soft as foam, but it lasts for the life of the goggles.
Choosing what sort of goggles to get is mainly a matter of taste. Try them on and see which one works best for you. Remember, comfort is everything.
