Having a baby shower doesn't need to be a drag. Life is, after all, what you make it. So make it a memorable and good time!
Although baby showers are supposed to be a surprise, try to subtly get an idea from the mom-to-be of what she would and would not like to have at the party.
Games
There are many different types of games that can make the party entertaining for everyone at the party.
"The Baby Name Game" Pass out necklaces, clothes pins, or something that can be easily put on and taken off a person's clothing. Each time someone says the word "baby" they lose one clothes pin or necklace or whatever is being used.
"Baby Bingo" Everyone in attendance gets a blank bingo sheet, and fills in the blanks with items they think will be given as gifts to the mom-to-be. When it comes time for the mom to open presents, let the game of bingo begin! This keeps it interesting for everyone who is watching. Don't forget about a free space and of course prizes!
Food
Having everyone bring a dish to the party will make is easier on the people preparing the event and keep everyone involved in the occasion. Otherwise consider a caterer depending on the size of the party.
Location and Invitations
Find a place that will be easy to clean up, and if you're renting a hall or a club be sure it isn't too expensive. You want everyone to be having a good time, not stressing over an overindulgent budget. As for who's invited, you may want to consider having an adults only party, and keep the kids at home. Otherwise be sure to arrange something for younger kids to do to keep them busy, so they don't grow to bored and rowdy.
These are just a few things to consider. What you really want to have a successful baby shower for the mom-to-be is to keep her happy. Assign jobs to other people involved, such as one friend takes care of decorations, another does invitations, another will be covering the food situation and someone else will be the overall manager, including entertainment and location arrangements. Keep the situation as organized as possible, and that will make it far easier.
Try to keep it low-key and comfortable, remember this is a baby shower not a bachelorette party!
If there is a small enough attendance you can have a theme, such as a spa event or going out to lunch, something very chill and still focused on the future mom.
Keep everyone busy, take lots of pictures and do your best to keep the poor girl's mother and mother-in-law calm and collected! As long as she's surrounded by family, friends and people who genuinely care about her taking the big step to being a new mom the party will be a success!
