Automotive history: Ford Mustang

A classic then, a classic today. The Ford Mustang was the first American Sports car to reach skyrocketing success because of its aerodynamic design and the sound of its engine, the logo of the mustang was a great magnet for everybody as well.

It was originally based on the Ford Falcon compact and the Ford Fairlane from which it got the chasis, suspension and drive-train components.

It was introduced on April 17, 1964 at the New York World's Fair, my dad was there and he brought pictures back home, and my brother got his first Mustang two years later. And televised by the three networks on the 19th.

There has been five generations of Mustangs and many special editions.

The first generation of Mustangs was assembled in Dearborn, Michigan, and it was first conceived by Donald N. Frey, Ford's product manager.
