The United States of America has had forty-two different presidents. Every president has had different beliefs and theories than other presidents. However, every president has been a white male. Times are changing. Our modern ways of living have made the possibility of having an African American president or a woman president very probable. I think having an African American president would be extremely beneficial to our country. However, I do not think it is a good time to have a woman president. Barack Obama, the most probably contender for the title as first African American president, is a well-educated, well rounded candidate. He has experience in government from being the junior senator of Illinois. He has taken strong positions on most major subjects and has gone so far as to make plans for how he will execute his beliefs. Having an African American president will help strengthen ties in foreign countries and on our home front. Countries with nationalities different from Caucasian will be able to relate with America more. This will make America look better in the world. It will help to strengthen ties, help us gain allies, and will help in our effort to bring peace to the middle east. Racism is still strong in America. Poverty and crime rates are high within minorities. This is not because of the color of their skin but because of the attitudes towards them from our country. Having an African American president will renew the hope of the minority. It will show the minority that They have the same chance at succeeding as their white neighbor. This will improve our poverty rates, our gang rates, and our crime rates all over the country.
Although I think we will eventually have a woman president, I do not think it is an appropriate time to have a woman president. America is trying to bring peace to the middle east, a region primarily controlled by Muslims. Muslims believe that men hold the power. Woman are considered property. Although this is not the mindset of the majority of America, we must consider this when considering electing a woman president. If a woman was elected president, it would be detrimental to the progress made in the middle east. In fact, I strongly believe that terrorism would be made worse. I believe that until affairs are settled in the middle east, it is in America's best interest to elect men to the presidency.
