My most memorable Birthday Gift Horror Story wasn't really about what I bought for someone and their reaction to it. But, what someone bought for me and my reaction to it.
When I was little, 10 I was looking forward to my birthday, it was the year that Mt.St.Helens exploded near my home so I was stuck inside my home I couldn't go outside to ride my new 10 speed bike. We had to stay inside, but the best was yet to come.
I had my family over and we were going to have cake, and ice cream I was all excited for my presents. I got to open the ones from my grandparents first. I went to my living room and got in the right position to open presents. My Grandparents on my dads side handed me a little box. I thought jewelry sized. I was just the age I had gotten my ears pierced so I was thinking I was getting some earrings Maybe.
So in anticipation, I ripped off the paper and opened the box, I peeked inside and you would never in a million years guess what was inside the box. Laying on top of cotton sheets like the jewelery boxes come with. A fake toy giant Fly... What am I going to do with a toy fly? Why would they give me that absurd toy for a 10 yr old girl? What were they drunk? Maybe? The birthday went down from there we had cake, ice cream and then I got to look at my new bike that I wasn't allowed to ride because of the ash fallout from the Volcano that year.
Not a good year all around.
