RPG's are just social activities that are memorable, creative, and loads of fun! Anyone who loves fantasy and has an imagination can play. From the vampire lovers to the dragon fanatics, there's a game for everyone. I know my friends would agree, though they would also mention how nerdy I was for writing about it.
I began my RPG experience when a friend of mine became a Game Master (GM for short). Knowing very little about RPG's, I assumed he was talking about all that Dungeons and Dragons stuff, with elves and gnomes and whatever. He told me that he was a GM for a completely different game.
"World of Darkness," the place where vampires and werewolves roam. I loved that game, even though I was a weak little human with no strength who died very quickly. It wasn't really the game itself that pulled me back, though. Simply being around my friends and making memories, though nerdy ones, were still precious to me.
I still remember playing that game on my friend's porch, while we discussed our characters. Then, there were the brief disagreements about how the story should play out or what our next action should be, so we would eventually get off topic and go order pizza. We, about four or five of us, would talk and play for hours until curfew made us leave.
We've all just started a Marvel RPG (X-Men, Spiderman, etc.). This game is neat in that I can make my very own superhero. Being creative is something I really enjoy, so making a whole new person is quite intriguing. I get to design his/her look, her past, her personality, not to mention her awesome powers. Kind of like playing "The Sims" except I get to spend more time with my friends than one the computer.
I highly recommend RPG's to anyone who is in need of a hobby on the weekends. They are a great way to kill time and get friends together. Also, it just helps to get a break from the norm every now and then. Variety is the spice of life, and there is so much variety in role-playing games.
