After a long winter, our desire is to resume the nice weather activities that we enjoy. The month of April is when we begin to experience warmer temperatures again, and one activity you will observe due to this welcome change is the reappearance of motorcycle riders cruising on the rural roads and the city avenues. I feel compelled to increase awareness of this because I was personally involved in a collision. A truck pulled out in front of me while I was taking my first ride of the season. While the situation looked serious for some time, I have recovered from the incident with minimal lasting effects. Without going into detail, I have to say that I never want to be blamable for putting someone else through such an ordeal. Driving brings with it tremendous responsibility even in the best of circumstances. Lapses in concentration or even encountering things out of the ordinary can result in tragedy. I urge everyone who drives to be mindful of the consequences of a bad decision. Especially at this time of year, take the time to look twice before turning or pulling onto a roadway, once for cars and again for motorcycles, bicycles, and pedestrians. The extra attention you give to this while on the road may just spare someone and their family from a lifetime of hardship, and exempt you from a lifetime of guilt.
