Understanding the ovulation cycle is the key to maximizing your chances of conception. This is based on what is called the menstrual cycle. Knowing about this cycle allows for one to be able to chart fertility rates and then plan accordingly. These techniques have been used for many years and for good reason.
The menstrual cycle is the cycle of developing and then shedding the lining of the uterus. A woman's fertile period on this cycle is about an eight day window. There are the days leading up to ovulation and then a short period after; short because the fertilized egg only lasts for twenty four hours.
Since this is basically the only time to conceive, it is vital to know every facet of the menstrual cycle. The most effective method of charting this is basal temperature readings, where a woman takes her temperature first thing in the morning and records her findings. The days where temperature goes up are noted.
After awhile it becomes clear when the three day ovulation period is occurring. Once this is known the couple can begin to plan accordingly.
The menstrual cycle has two parts, with ovulation as the midpoint. The first is called the follicur phase. This is where the egg comes to maturation and release. The cycle after ovulation occurs is called the luteal phase. This is when the ovary travels down the fallopian tube. The lining of the uterus is now "thickened" enough to house a fertilized egg for conception.
The first portion of this cycle is two to three weeks, with the ovulation taking three days and the post-ovulation period varying depending on the female.
Knowledge of these cycles is vital to being able to understand women from a naturalistic point of view. Humans have reproductive systems as complicated as any animal, but our knowledge of them gives us an advantage they will never have. Use yours as you see fit, and good luck.
