Addiction

The nature of addiction and the quest for treatment

The blood brain brain is comprised of endothelial cells that restrict the passage of substances from the blood vessels in the brain more than the endothelial cells around blood vessels in other areas of the body. It used to be called the hematoencephalic barrier. It was discovered because dyes injected into the body's blood vessels do not stain the brain, but dyes injected into the spinal fluid do not stain the body's organs, only the brain. There is obviously a barrier between the two sections of the body. Because the brain does not receive hormones usually, there are three specialised sites where neurons can "sample" the composition of the circulating blood - the subfornical organ, the area postrema and the organum vasculosum of the lamina terminalis (OVLT).

The Bible says that being a Christian means keeping a sound mind at 2 Timothy 1:7. "For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline." Self-discipline means being able to "to intellectually grasp or thoroughly analyse" yourself. The Bible puts high price on rebellion. To rebel is to "resist any authority, control, or tradition." Both Joseph Campbell, author of 'Creative Mythology', and David Hume, author of 'Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion', have commented on the subjective experience of the failure of traditional mythology to provide authorised signs and symbols for the individual. Mythology spreads from person to person via phonology. It affects the "heartbeat" and therefore renders the ideas "important". The Bible says at Proverbs 18:8: "The words of a gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to the inmost parts, " and at Proverbs 26:20: "Without wood a fire goes out; without a gossip a quarrel dies down." In contrast, what I'm calling the literacy perspective says that a heavy heart is worth paying attention to, instead of trying to force its sense of timing. Proverbs 25:20 says: "Like one who takes away a garment on a cold day, or like vinegar poured on a wound, is one who sings songs to a heavy heart."

Harnessing your anger (not resolving it) is marketed as a success technique for your career. Mark Daniels has written in his blog that Jesus was doing this in John 2:13-22. Verse 17 says that "his disciples (those who intellectually grasped or thoroughly analysed) remembered that it is written: 'Zeal for your house will consume me.'" In the Christian era, our bodies are God's temple (1 Corinthians 3:16, 17).
