Marriage and debts

Know Your Partner's Credit Score Before You Say "I DO"

I was astonished to find out how few people actually knew full details about their future partners' financial situation. For me, I knew my future husband's credit score, and exactly how much debt he had. But I have talked with friends who after marriage were actually surprised to find out just how much debt their partners had.
Didn't you ever notice how often they pull out the plastic to pay for things?

As far as the debt after the marriage, legally you are not responsible for your partners debts prior to the marriage, but you are married now and it's all for one and one for all. You really need to sit down and talk about how and who will pay bills, and how you will save for the future. It truly does amaze me how many couples don't talk about money. They wait until they are practically bankrupt and then scream and yell about who spends too much and the next thing you know they are getting divorced. Don't spend more time planning the wedding than you spend planning for your marriage!
