Gift registry tips for the engaged

Gift registries are a wonderful idea, and in Europe are becoming increasingly popular. The idea is that by having a gift registry, there are no shocks of people buying similar presents and the old disappointments of wedding days revealing four coffee pots, six toasters and two dinner services are happily tucked into the past where they belong.

GIFT REGISTRY EXPLAINED

When a young couple are setting up home, they don't always have the finances for the nice things that they want. Of course, like anyone else, they can plan the way they want their home, but what the Gift Registry enables them to do, with the help of guests, is to achieve those dream purchases for their wedding.

THE CHOICES

Choosing a gift registry with a vast range of goods is a great idea because the choice is better, and more people's finances can be accounted for. The couple visit the shop, make lists of all the items that they want for their home, and the registry keeps their list. Invitations are sent, and people are made aware that the registry exists. There are no expectations of how much anyone will spend, and this really does take the financial hassle and embarrassment out of wedding gifts.

ADVICE TO THE ENGAGED

Do look around when choosing a registry, and try and find one that carries a good stock that includes all that you want on your wedding list. Choose carefully, pay attention to detail, and you can have all those matching accessories for your home that couples often save years for. If possible, choose a registry that send out the wedding list. That way you take yourself out of the embarrassment that makes you feel you are asking for presents. It's convenient for you, but more than that, this system really works for everyone involved and takes hassle out of choosing your gifts.

BUYING

When the guests visit the shop, who may have distributed the registry to the list of guests, or keep it in the shop themselves, buyers ask to see the list and check off those items that they can afford to pay for. If there is extra money in the budget, they can offer a small amount towards other items that they cannot fully afford. As more and more guests choose items and they are taken from the list, gradually the shop adds little bits from guests to the more expensive items, so that the list of those presents the couple want can be purchased in time for the wedding.

INNOVATIVE ADVANCEMENT

The registry works very well, and there really is no need for guests to worry about what to buy, to make expensive mistakes, or to buy items that the couple already have. Everyone happy, and a win win situation all round. Now all the couple have to do is walk down the aisle, make promises and look forward to their new lives together.
