If there's a movie buff on your gift list, consider yourself lucky because they are one of the easiest people to buy presents for! I know, because I'm a movie buff myself, and over the years I've gotten some great gifts related to my movie obsession. Here are a few to consider.
Movie memorabilia is one of the easiest things to score for a film fan, and you don't even have to leave the house! E-Bay, Moviegoods, Hollywoodmegastore and dozens of other reputable internet sites have an amazing collection of movie memorabilia. They offer posters, DVD boxed sets, t-shirts, collectibles, artwork, autographed items and so much more. Once you know your movie buff's favorite flicks and film stars, there's really no end to the cool gifts you can find online.
Movie-related books and magazines abound. These include movie trivia books, biographies of famous actors and actresses, movie history, screenplays, and comprehensive tomes like "1001 Movies To See Before You Die" by Steven Jay Schneider. This massive book includes movies from all genres, with recommendations from critics, directors, writers and film professors. Or get your movie buff a year's subscription to Premiere, Box Office or similar magazines.
DVDs make great gifts for a movie buff, just be sure they don't already have it in their collection. If they watch a lot of movies at home, and you've got lots of cash, a flat-screen plasma television will earn you a place in a movie buff's heart forever!
Gift cards from the local movie theater are always appreciated (and used immediately!) by all film fans. Or get them a membership to Netflix and let the movies come to them. Similarly, Blockbuster, Hollywood Video and other movie rental places offer gift cards in various amounts.
A trip to Universal Studios Hollywood is a wonderful gift for a film fan. They'll get to tour the studio backlot and see the sets from classic movies like Psycho and Jurassic Park as well as films currently in production. They can take a wild ride "Back to the Future," get singed by the fiery inferno of "Backdraft" or visit the Special Effects Stages to witness fascinating moviemaking secrets.
If you really want to go all out on a gift for a movie buff, consider a trip to a film festival such as Sundance or Cannes. This just might be the "holy grail" of gifts for a movie buff. However, tickets and lodging for these renowned festivals are booked well in advance, so this is not a good last minute gift idea. Many metropolitan areas have their own annual film festivals that are easier to get tickets for, so if you're lucky enough to live close to one of those, your movie buff will surely want to attend.
These are just a few of the many great gifts available for movie buffs. Dim the lights, pass the popcorn, and enjoy the show!
