High heels: Tips for choosing the right height heel for your outfit

As the whims of fashion change from season to season, so, too, do heel heights and styles. From the stacked heel to the wood wedge to the high-stepping platform, the choices of which heel height to wear with which outfit are seemingly endless. What's a stylish woman to do? Well, have no fear. Following are some tips to have you stepping lively - and fashionably in the season's latest trends.

Bermuda or knee shorts This trend, which began last fall, continues strong for Spring and Fall 2007 and lends itself to a variety of heel heights. For a casual look, pair the shorts with one of the season's pretty, new flats. Ballet flats, sandals or pumps work well with the proportion of the shorts. For the office or a more formal occasion, think of the Bermuda short as you would a skirt and pair it with a heeled pump or wedge. Add a jacket and you've got the season's newest suit. The sky's the limit when it comes to heel heights for evening ensembles. Think sexy, strappy sandals, the newest wood wedges or trendy Lucite heels and step out on the town in style.

Babydoll dresses Many designers looked to the 60s for inspiration for Spring 2007 and the baby doll dress emerged as a fashion staple. Cut the sweetness and add an edge with a peek-a-boo toed, strappy sandal a la Prada. Lanvin's turquoise patent leather pump with its cone-shaped high heel adds just the right touch of seductive allure. If you like the look to be a bit boho, opt for a flat. The season's brightest are bejeweled and metallic. Remember, when the hem is up-to-there, the emphasis is on the leg and the foot, so be bold.

Skinny pants While not for everyone, skinny pants showed up on lots of spring runways. The look can be difficult to wear for all but the most fit. But, if you've got the gams or the confidence to sport this trend, go for broke and pair it with delicate heels. Leave the chunky shoes for your boot leg jeans. The proportion is all wrong for the skinny ones. If flats are your thing, skinnies can take them, as long as they're airy, strappy and light.

Short shorts With so much emphasis on legs this season, it's no wonder designers have outdone themselves in the shoe department. Mini shorts strutted down runways accessorized by glamorous high heeled platforms, chunky high wedges, and eye-catching high heeled sandals. Sure, on the weekend, pair your short shorts with tennies. But, for an afternoon or evening out, scale the heights and walk tall.
