Gas prices these days seem to be like a stock market. You need to know when to buy, and when to hold off for a better price. Here are some tips for finding that steal at pumps:
TIME OF DAY/WEEK: Typically, gas prices are higher in the weekdays around the morning and afternoon rush hours than they are at sporadic hours through the day. If you can scoot out to grab some gas during your lunch break, or just before you head to bed, you're most likely to get a better deal.
CHECK FOR 'SALES': I know some gas companies actually have a 'sale' on gas for a specific day of the week. Sunoco if I'm not mistaken saves 3 cents / L off gas on Thursdays, for example.
AVOID TANKING UP ON HOLIDAYS: The Easter long weekend is a great example, from Thursday morning, to Thursday night.. I saw gas dip down after rush hour, then spike up at night.. since many people will be traveling over the long weekend, always try to grab your gas on the day before, and tank right up to F.
USE WEBSITES: I live in the Ottawa area, and there's a great website for anyone in the Ottawa Valley; ottawagasprices.com .. Similar websites exist for almost every local area, so just do a quick Google search for your city and gas prices. Good luck finding those deals at the pumps!
