Medicinal drugs from common plants

There are untold hundred of medicinal uses from everyday plants and their fruits. Some are commonly known, others are not so well known. Please note: the use of any natural source for medicinal purposes should still be discussed with your doctor! A simple search on the Internet will yield some of the following:

Aloe Vera - Heals wounds, emollient, laxative, prevents scarring, great for burns.


Angelica - Antispasmodic, promotes menstrual flow.
Anise - Reduces colic and gas, promotes digestion.
Arnica - Anti-inflammatory, germicide, muscular soreness, pain relieving.
Arrowroot - Anti-inflammatory, digestive.
Artemisia (wormwood) - Muscle relaxer, antiseptic.
Artichoke - reduced total serum cholesterol levels in preliminary studies.
Basil - Lowers blood sugar levels, antispasmodic, analgesic, lowers blood pressure, reduces fever, fungicidal, anti-inflammatory.
Belladonna - Smoothes muscle, antispasmodic, narcotic, reduces sweating, sedative.
Bergamot - Disinfectant, muscle relaxant.
Black cohosh - have some benefits for treatment of symptoms resulting from menopause.
Black Spruce: the oil from the needles was made into a form of turpentine. The bark was also used as a medicinal salt.
Blue Flax: The root was used to treat sores, burns and inflammation.
Bromelain - an extract from pineapples and tylophoro indica extracts have been used to treat allergies and bowel diseases.
Burdock - Used for pleurisy and stomach pain.
Camphor - Antiseptic, antispasmodic, analgesic, expectorant.
Cardamom Good for upset stomachs, carminative, aromatic, antispasmodic.
Celery - Anti-rheumatic, antispasmodic, diuretic, urinary antiseptic.
Chamomile - Anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic, relaxant, carminative.
Chaparral - a cleanser, in tincture form it is good for burns.
Chicory Digestive aid, liver tonic, anti-rheumatic, mild laxative.
Cinnamon - Antispasmodic, antiseptic, anti-viral.
Clove - Antiseptic, stimulant, analgesic, antibacterial.
Coriander - Digestive, antispasmodic, anti-rheumatic.
Dandelion - Used as a mild laxative and brewed as a tea for heartburn.
Dill - Digestive, antibacterial, antispasmodic, diuretic.
Echinacea Helps in controlling colds, although some studies have found it to have no effect at lower dosages than are normally given by herbalists.
Grapefruit seed extract - has a minimal amount of effectiveness as an anti-bacterial, anti-parasitic, and anti-fungal herb.
Eucalyptus - Antiseptic, expectorant, stimulates local blood flow, anti-fungal.
Fennel - Digestive, antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory.
Garlic
