Taking young children to Disney World can be a rewarding experience for the whole family. I have heard many parents argue that their children are too young to remember the trip and therefore they are waiting until the children are older to make the big trip to the World. However, with a little planning, taking small children to Disney World can be an excellent vacation.
First, I would recommend getting a Disney World guide book and read, read, read! There are quite a few guidebooks on Disney World. One of my favorites is the Passporter. Most of the guidebooks also have a website to keep you up to date with any changes that have occurred since printing.
Second, make a plan. You do not need to plan every minute of every day. Over-planning your schedule will not only make you crazy, but will not leave room for the ever changing needs of your little ones. Start by deciding how many days you want to stay and which parks you will be visiting. Magic Kingdom is a must for little ones, but I highly recommend Epcot, MGM, and Animal Kingdom if you have the time, as well. Be realistic in what your kids can handle. For example, do not plan to stay for the night show at park closing and then plan to be at another park for opening the next morning.
Third, don't try to see it all! Once you pick your parks, choose the attractions that are suitable for your children. Keep in mind that you won't see it all in one trip. Disney is very overstimulating for young children. They will need a break from the attractions, whether it be a break back at the hotel or a nice long nap in the stroller.
With a little planning, you can have a wonderful trip that you will remember for a lifetime. I will never forget the joy on my childrens' faces when they walked down Main Street, USA for the first time!
