Around one o'clock when the phone starts to ring you get that feeling of 'here we go', you know this is going to be the first of many of the nuisance calls that will invade your privacy for this day. What I do is let the phone ring for a minimum of five ring and generally by this time some other unsuspecting person will have picked up and the caller will be engaged, you get a silence and just hang up.
If the caller is very persistent and is still hanging on waiting for you all I do is wait to hear how they talk, as nearly all the call centres for Britain are now in India, if you can hardly understand what they say to you hang up.
If the call is a local caller trying to sell you windows, a new kitchen or some other home improvement offer I politely interrupt their flow and inform them that we have recently put our house on the market, they then don't wish to waste their own time.
For charities and insurance sales people I just inform them that I give to charities of my own choice when and how much I want and if I wanted better insurance I would ring them if they where who I wanted to purchase from.
