A gift for a bridesmaid can be much more important than one might first think. After all, being a bridesmaid is the closest thing a girl can be to a bride, without herself getting married! Therefore, the wedding day is very special to her, and more than being thanked or her help on the day, although this is a factor that should be considered, it is more important that the bridesmaid remembers the day on her own terms. Therefore, the gift should be personal to the wedding, more than to the individual. However, if you see a gift which just reminds you of the bridesmaid in question, and shows you are grateful and will always remind her of the special day, then go with it. For example, a small ornament of a prettily dressed girl will be kept forever and will discreetly remind the bridesmaid of her day. Also, a decorative photo album with a promise of wedding photos inside is a classic example of a great bridesmaid gift, as is an intricate photo frame. Delicate jewelery can be worn always and is bound to make the bridesmaid smile. If not, and perhaps if the bridesmaid is particularly special to you and has helped out more than she could know, give the gift of time - an invitation to a health spa with yourself for a day is an immensely generous yet thoughtful and appropriate gift. And if you're truly stuck, a carefully selected gift voucher for a fabulous gift shop, a tasteful wine cellar, or even a particularly delicious restaurant will all be appreciated.

The presentation of bridesmaid gifts is also a factor which must be taken into consideration. If there is variation between the gifts, it might be wise to present them all in identical yet well-secured gift boxes and encourage the individuals to open them at home, so that no upset is caused. There is no shame in choosing different gifts for the individuals - it is all up to the most special person, the bride. They are, after all, there for her sake.
A carefully thought out utterance is enough upon presentation of the gifts - the fact that you are thanking them in front of everybody shows how grateful you are in itself. And if you're certain that no gift will do, a beautiful bouquet or even potted flowering plant will always be welcome. Imagining what would be appreciated is usually the key to success. But remember, the bride shouldn't spend too much time over-thinking the bridesmaid gifts - there are bound to be more important things to think about. If time is too pressing, invite the bridesmaids out for a girly lunch after the honeymoon; this will give you time to reminisce, enjoy each others company and prove that you are truly glad you chose them as your bridesmaids.
